After much debate, and a week of testing workouts, we have decided to use an open gym format for training. Here's why...
Group fitness classes have exploded in popularity over the last 30 years. They exist in a variety of formats, including cycling (spinning), yoga, aerobics, dance, Pilates, step, kickboxing, and the list goes on. What do most of these types of exercise have in common? All the participants are doing the same thing. Group fitness is exercise for the masses. Enter Divergent Training & Nutrition. We understand that each person that comes to us has different reasons for beginning an exercise program and with those reasons, different abilities and goals. Now, we know from experience that group fitness is fun, motivating, and socially rewarding. That is why we designed a program that offers the best of both worlds; individualized programming in a group environment.
So where does that leave us with classes? We have NO SET CLASS TIMES (except for our 1 group class on Saturday mornings). Yes, you will see a schedule that has class times listed, but that is for administrative purposes and attendance tracking. Will you need to sign into class? Yes. Coach will sign you in. Can you come to the gym whenever you want? Yes, as long as we are open! Will you still get coaching? Yes! In fact, you'll get more coaching! Do you know what happens when coaches have to teach a class? They end up watching a clock, managing rest periods and workout transitions, and never really getting a chance to coach. We believe that our open gym format will offer more chances for true coaching and an environment for each athlete to excel.
How to navigate an open gym format...
Step 1: Sign up for a membership.
Step 2: Check out our Facebook page or Blog for workouts, updates, news, and information.
Step 3: Make friends. Text them or message them on Facebook so you can come to the gym together.
Step 4: Come to the gym...when we are open. Check the programmed workouts on Facebook or the blog. Ask Coach if you have questions or don't know how to perform a movement.
Step 5: Do the workout. Listen to music. Talk to your friends. Get coached. Get in the best shape of your life.
How do I know which workout to do...
We offer three different programs. Our "Restore" program is designed with general fitness in mind. If you want to improve your health and fitness, have toned muscles, lose body fat, and just get in shape this is a great program for you. "Build" is our classic strength and conditioning program. Want to use a barbell? Want to get stronger, leaner, faster, and healthier? This is a great program for building overall strength and cardiovascular endurance. Still looking for more? Do you have dreams of competing in local or national competitions? Want to test the limits of your athletic potential? "Perform" is our competitive fitness program. You can't just walk in off the street and "Perform". You'll have to qualify for this type of training. Talk to Coach Katy about how to qualify if you are interested.
As of June 1, 2015, we are open 9:30am to 11:30am and 4:00pm to 8:00pm, Monday through Friday. We have one group class on Saturdays at 9:30am. Think of Saturday class as community building.
